DaysofPal – A senior Hamas official has denounced Israeli decisions to ban a number of Al-Aqsa Mosque preachers and imams for varied lengths of time, calling the actions an aggressive crime and a flagrant breach of the mosque’s sanctity as well as its role in Islam and civilization.
Haroun Nasser al-Din, a member of Hamas’s political bureau and head of its Jerusalem affairs office, said the expulsion orders issued by Israeli authorities target religious leaders who defend the Islamic identity of Al-Aqsa Mosque. He stated that pursuing scholars, imams, and preachers through expulsion, arrest, and restrictions aims to silence “truthful voices” and empty the mosque of its religious and community leadership.
Nasser al-Din argued that these policies seek to facilitate plans for the Judaization and temporal and spatial division of the mosque, ultimately leading to its demolition and the construction of the “alleged Temple.”
“The policy of expulsion will not succeed in deterring our people and our families in Jerusalem from maintaining their steadfast presence at Al-Aqsa Mosque,” he said. “It will only increase their determination to uphold their exclusive right to it. The imams and scholars will remain beacons of truth, and the occupation’s decisions will neither strip them of their standing nor erase their role in leading the masses to protect the first qibla.”
He warned Israeli leaders against continuing to target Al-Aqsa Mosque, its worshippers, and its scholars. Tampering with the identity of Jerusalem and its holy sites, he said, will not be met with silence from the Palestinian people or their resistance. He added that Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque will remain at the center of the conflict and the focus of resistance.
Nasser al-Din called on Palestinians in Jerusalem and within Israel, along with those able to reach the city from the West Bank, to intensify their presence at Al-Aqsa Mosque and rally around their scholars and preachers. He urged them to confront the unjust expulsion orders by increasing acts of defiance and steadfastness.
He also appealed to Arab and Islamic nations, their governments and peoples, as well as scholars and international human rights organizations, to take urgent action to curb Israeli measures against Al-Aqsa Mosque. He called for exposing violations against religious figures and providing all forms of support to strengthen the resilience of Jerusalemites.
