DayofPal– Two Palestinian prisoners have been tortured to death in Israeli custody within 48 hours in a disturbing escalation reflecting Israel’s systematic policy of “genocide” against Palestinian detainees.
The General Authority for Civil Affairs announced the death of 34-year-old Ra’fat Adnan Abu Fanouneh from Deir Al-Balah, who succumbed to medical neglect and brutal torture at Ramla Prison Hospital.
His death comes just two days after the Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office confirmed the death of Musab Haniya, 35-year-old Gazan, inside Israeli prisons.
The shocking news has risen the number of Palestinian prisoners killed in Israeli detention since the war on Gaza began on October 7, 2024, to 61.
According to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office, the total number of Palestinian prisoners who have died in Israeli custody since 1967 has now reached 297.
The whereabouts of many detainees remain unknown, particularly those from Gaza, who have been forcibly disappeared under Israeli detention, the office added.
The rising death toll inside prisons exposes what activists call Israel’s “slow-death” policy inflicting systematic starvation, medical deprivation, torture, and extrajudicial executions against Palestinian detainees.
Testimonies from released prisoners and human rights organizations confirm that Israeli authorities employ extreme torture methods, including prolonged stress positions, sleep deprivation, severe beatings, exposure to burning chemicals, and simulated executions.
One of the most lethal tactics, however, is medical negligence, where authorities deliberately deny treatment to sick prisoners, allowing their health to deteriorate until death.
Musab Haniya, who died in Israeli detention despite having no prior health conditions, is a stark example of this practice. His body bore signs of relentless psychological and physical torture, highlighting the appalling conditions under which Palestinian detainees are held.
Despite that global institutions have expressed concern about the fate of Palestinian prisoners, there has been no concrete intervention to halt the killings inside Israeli jails.
The double standards of the international community have become glaringly evident.
While the plight of Israeli captives in Gaza garners widespread attention and urgent diplomatic efforts for their release, the suffering of over 10,000 Palestinian prisoners, including journalists, doctors, and academics, remains largely ignored.
