DaysofPal – Israeli forces have killed two Palestinians, including a teenage boy, during separate military raids in the Jenin governorate in the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian officials. Security camera footage appears to show Israeli soldiers shooting the teenager at close range.
Teen Shot at Close Range in Qabatiya
The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced late Saturday that 16-year-old Rayyan Abdel Qader was shot dead after Israeli forces stormed the town of Qabatiya, south of Jenin. A second Palestinian, Ahmad Zayoud, 22, was killed by Israeli gunfire in the town of Silat al-Harithiya, west of Jenin.
Witnesses told the Palestinian Wafa news agency that Israeli troops opened fire directly at Abdel Qader and prevented ambulance crews from reaching him, leaving him bleeding on the ground. His body was later withheld by Israeli forces. The Health Ministry said Zayoud was shot in the chest and confirmed that a 15-year-old boy was also injured in the hand during the same raid.
Surveillance footage reviewed by local residents and media shows Abdel Qader walking toward what was believed to be his home when he was shot at close range. Reporting from Bethlehem, Al Jazeera correspondent Nida Ibrahim said such footage is rare but crucial in documenting extrajudicial killings.
She added that Israeli forces barred anyone from approaching Abdel Qader’s body for about 40 minutes, a practice increasingly reported across the occupied West Bank. Abdel Qader’s family told Al Jazeera they were unaware of any circumstances that would have justified the shooting.
Rising Death Toll Across the West Bank and Gaza
The Israeli military claimed the two Palestinians were killed after allegedly throwing a concrete block and an explosive at soldiers. No Israeli troops were injured. Palestinian and international rights groups have repeatedly disputed similar claims, citing cases where video evidence contradicted official accounts.
The latest killings bring the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank since October 7, 2023, to at least 1,101, including 229 children. During the same period, Israeli authorities have arrested nearly 21,000 Palestinians. As of December 1, around 9,300 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons, with more than a third detained without charge or trial. Human rights organizations report widespread torture, abuse, and deaths in custody.
Meanwhile, violence continued in the Gaza Strip. Medical sources at al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City said Israeli forces killed two Palestinians on Sunday in the Shujayea neighborhood, near the so-called “yellow line” separating areas under Israeli military control. Israeli artillery shelling and helicopter fire were also reported near eastern Khan Younis.
The violence has persisted despite a ceasefire that came into effect on October 10. Since then, Israeli attacks have reportedly killed at least 400 Palestinians. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has warned that repeated violations risk undermining efforts to advance to the second phase of the agreement.
Separately, Gaza’s Ministry of Interior said four people were killed when a three-story house collapsed in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of Gaza City on Saturday night. The Palestinian Civil Defence confirmed that five people, including a child and two women, were rescued from the rubble, bringing the total number of deaths from building collapses since the ceasefire began to 18.
