DaysofPal – The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said on Sunday that the United States is providing political cover that allows Israel to entrench the current reality in the Gaza Strip and continue what it described as acts of genocide against the civilian population.

In a press statement, the rights group said U.S. support for Israel, particularly linking progress toward a ceasefire to the recovery of the last body from Gaza, amounts to “shameful complicity” in the continued violations of the ceasefire, the siege of civilians, their forced displacement, and the destruction of what remains of their homes.

The organization stressed that the fate of more than two million people in Gaza “must not be held hostage to political or field-related conditions that are nearly impossible to fulfill on the ground.” It warned against the use of humanitarian needs as leverage in negotiation processes.

Euro-Med Monitor noted that the massive scale of destruction in Gaza, combined with the systematic demolition of most search-and-rescue equipment and machinery, has severely undermined the possibility of meeting Israeli conditions related to advancing the ceasefire process.

It added that the backing provided by the U.S. administration in this context “reinforces an unlawful conflation between political negotiations and guaranteed humanitarian rights, which must be implemented immediately and without any form of bargaining or delay.”

According to the organization, U.S. political cover has had tangible consequences on the ground, exposing Gaza’s civilians to the constant risk of death under coercive living conditions.

It said Israel is exploiting the current situation to continue enforcing its policies and consolidate military control over more than 53 percent of the Gaza Strip after near-total destruction of those areas.

The rights group warned that the continuation of this reality amounts to a “slow death” for Gaza’s population amid catastrophic humanitarian conditions, particularly as winter sets in. It pointed out that approximately 18 civilians have died this month due to the recent severe weather system, including five children who succumbed to extreme cold.

Euro-Med Monitor called on the international community to establish an independent mechanism to verify the opening of Gaza’s border crossings and to ensure the urgent and unconditional flow of humanitarian aid into the enclave. It also urged the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to adequate housing to take immediate action and pressure Israel to allow the entry of temporary housing units and rubble-removal equipment.

On September 29, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 20-point peace plan aimed at ending the war in Gaza. The first phase of the plan came into effect on October 10, though Israeli violations have continued, alongside delays in moving toward the agreement’s second phase, according to the rights group.
