DayofPal- The Iranian army reported that two soldiers were killed in Israeli airstrikes targeting military bases.
The announcement followed Israel’s statement that it had “completed” the attack and issued a warning against any retaliation.
Multiple explosions were reported in Tehran and nearby military bases over several hours, beginning shortly after 2 a.m. (10:30 p.m. GMT on Friday).
According to a statement from Iran’s air defense headquarters, bases in the provinces of Ilam, Khuzestan, and Tehran were targeted, but the attacks were “successfully countered.”
“Though minor damages were caused in some areas, and the extent of the incident is currently under investigation,” it said.
The semi-official Tasnim news agency said that Iran also stated that it was prepared to respond to any Israeli “aggression,” quoting sources who stated that “Israel will undoubtedly face a proportionate reaction for any action it takes.”
“At the moment, Iranian officials are not claiming any casualties and claim that their multi-layered, integrated air defense system has operated successfully, presenting the situation as a success.” In the meantime, Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) reported that all flights were operating normally again.
In a previously recorded video statement, Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari stated, “The Iranian regime and its regional proxies have been attacking Israel nonstop since October 7 … including direct attacks from Iranian soil.”
Following Iran’s October missile barrage, in which approximately 200 missiles were fired at Israel and one person was killed in the occupied West Bank, Israel’s response was long anticipated. Iran claimed the attack was retaliation for attacks in recent months that killed Iranian military personnel, Palestinian Hamas leaders, and Lebanese Hezbollah leaders.
Israel’s response to Iran was described by US National Security Council Spokesman Sean Savett as “an exercise in self-defence” that was limited to military targets. He stated that the US wants “to accelerate diplomacy” and urged Iran to “cease its attacks on Israel so that this cycle of fighting can end without further escalation.”
Following the October 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel by Hamas, tensions between Israel and Iran, longtime adversaries, have increased. Since then, at least 42,847 people have been killed and 100,544 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza.
