DayofPal— The Trump administration is reportedly backing an Israeli-drafted resolution at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) that would overhaul governance in Gaza and significantly reshape the path toward Palestinian statehood, according to diplomatic sources and leaked drafts reviewed by several media outlets this week.
The proposed resolution would establish a “Board of Peace” dominated by the United States and the United Kingdom and chaired by President Donald Trump.
The board would hold broad powers over Gaza’s borders, reconstruction, security, and political administration, effectively placing the enclave under international, and primarily U.S., oversight.
Critics say the move could separate Gaza from the rest of the Palestinian territories, sideline the Palestinian Authority, and indefinitely delay Palestinian self-governance.
The draft reportedly conditions any transfer of authority to Palestinians on the board’s approval, which would decide when Palestinians are deemed “ready” to govern themselves.
Analysts have described the proposal as a modern-day mandate system, drawing parallels to the British Mandate over Palestine a century ago.
“It’s a reassertion of colonial control under the guise of peacekeeping,” said one UN diplomat who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of ongoing negotiations.
The initiative comes amid growing global recognition of Palestinian statehood. In recent months, the UN General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to support Palestine’s full membership in the UN, though the United States has continued to block the move at the Security Council using its veto power.
The decision is vewd as an attempt to entrench U.S. and Israeli control over Palestinian territory while bypassing international law and existing peace frameworks.
The controversy follows international outrage over Israel’s military operations in Gaza and the West Bank, which many governments and human rights organizations have condemned as disproportionate or even genocidal.
Diplomatic observers say the UNSC faces a pivotal test. Critics of the draft resolution urge member states to resist U.S. pressure and instead adopt a plan that includes: Full UN membership for the State of Palestine; territorial integrity for both Israel and Palestine along 1967 borders; an international protection force drawn from Muslim-majority countries; and disarmament of non-state armed groups and guarantees of mutual security.
