Over 11,000 Americans have signed a petition calling on General Mills to close its Pillsbury factory in the Israeli settlement of Atarot, which is built on occupied Palestinian lands.
“The U.N. has named General Mills as one of the 112 businesses violating international humanitarian and human rights law by operating in occupied Palestinian territories,” the petition highlighted.
“Its Pillsbury factory in the Atarot Industrial Zone, an illegal Israeli settlement in East Jerusalem, has displaced, exploited, stifled, and otherwise harmed local Palestinian lives, livelihoods, and land,” the petition added. “General Mills profits off of apartheid and is complicit in Israel’s occupation and annexation of the West Bank.”
Moreover, the petition said that General Mills has endorsed the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and stated, “Respect for human rights is fundamental to our purpose of serving the world by making food people love and to our commitment to ethical business conduct.”
“It’s past time that the company put those principles into practice,” it concluded.
