DaysofPal- The Rafah Municipality in the southern Gaza Strip has raised alarm over the dire conditions in the city, warning that severe fuel shortages and a lack of essential equipment are pushing vital services to the brink of collapse.
In an official statement released Sunday evening, the municipality stressed that the ongoing fuel crisis is crippling key infrastructure, including water wells and sewage treatment stations. The inability to operate necessary machinery for debris removal is further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis, heightening the risk of a complete breakdown in basic services.
Officials revealed that while they have managed to secure 70,000 liters of diesel, this supply will last only 15 days at a consumption rate of 5,000 liters per day. The fuel scarcity has already forced the shutdown of multiple water wells, endangering access to drinking water for thousands of families. Municipal teams are also struggling to clear debris and reopen roads, worsening living conditions for residents.
Compounding the crisis, Israeli occupation forces continue to block the entry of heavy machinery into Gaza, significantly hampering efforts to remove rubble and restore mobility in residential and commercial areas. With resources dwindling, municipal workers are operating at minimal capacity, striving to maintain essential services in an increasingly desperate situation.
On January 19, 2025, a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian resistance took effect following 471 days of genocidal warfare that left thousands of people missing and injured, over 47,000 killed, caused an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, and extensively destroyed infrastructure, public buildings, and residential areas.
