Palestine’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, said that the UN Security Council will hold a meeting on Monday, at the request of the State of Palestine, to discuss the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
Mansour added that “contact was made with the presidency of the Security Council for this month (China), and other members of the Security Council, including the Arab delegate in the Council (the United Arab Emirates), to respond to the request of the State of Palestine that the Council assume its responsibilities to stop the Israeli aggression against our people in the Gaza Strip and condemning it, and providing international protection to the Palestinian people.”
He added that many delegations from the members of the Security Council expressed their response to this request, which was made through the UAE, the Arab representative in the Council, and it was agreed to hold a closed session of the Council on Monday afternoon, to deal with this request and discuss the condemned Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
Mansour stressed that the Security Council bears the responsibility of maintaining international peace and security, responding to the imperatives of condemning and stopping Israeli aggression, and providing international protection for the Palestinian people.
