Palestinian children held in Israeli detention are facing widespread abuse and deteriorating conditions, according to a new report by Save the Children.
The report confirms that approximately 350 Palestinian children are currently imprisoned by Israeli authorities, including minors held in pre-trial detention and under administrative detention without charge or trial.
According to the findings, detained children are subjected to physical violence, prolonged interrogations, and harsh living conditions inside Israeli detention facilities. The report describes overcrowded cells, restricted access to family visits, and a lack of basic protections for minors, highlighting the severe psychological and physical toll on detainees.
Conditions for Palestinian child detainees have significantly worsened since October 7, 2023, as Israeli forces intensified arrest campaigns and tightened restrictions inside prisons. The report indicates that humanitarian organizations face growing limitations in accessing detention centers, preventing independent monitoring and increasing concerns over the treatment of children behind bars.
The detention of Palestinian children is part of a broader system in which minors are routinely taken from their homes, often during night raids, and interrogated without the presence of parents or legal counsel. Rights organizations have long documented patterns of ill-treatment, including beatings, intimidation, and coercive questioning.
Palestinian children remain the only minors in the world systematically prosecuted in military courts, a reality that underscores the structural nature of these violations and raises serious concerns about due process and basic legal protections.
The report comes amid growing international alarm over the treatment of Palestinian detainees, particularly children, as calls intensify for accountability and for the protection of minors under international law.
