DayofPal—Several Palestinian teenagers recently released from Israeli custody have reported severe abuse, including beatings, starvation and psychological trauma, during their detention at the Sde Teiman torture camp.
According to testimonies gathered by Defense for Children International – Palestine (DCIP), the youths Mohammad Nael Khamis Al-Zoghbi, 17, Faris Ibrahim Faris Abu Jabal, 16, and Mahmoud Hani Mohammad Al-Majayda, 17, told DCIP they were detained by Israeli forces near aid distribution points in Gaza before being transported to Sde Teiman.
All three said they were held for extended periods, denied adequate food and water, and subjected to physical violence.
Abu Jabal recounted being severely beaten during interrogation, telling the rights group that one assault caused a deep cut to his forehead requiring stitches.
“I endured those hours without food, water, or even a chance to use the bathroom,” he said, adding that fear prevented him from speaking or asking for help.
The boys also described being taken to what detainees refer to as the “disco room,” a concrete chamber where they were forced to lie on the floor while loud Hebrew music was blasted for more than 12 hours at a time.
Abu Jabal said a soldier intermittently beat him whenever he became frustrated while playing a game on his phone.
In another incident, Abu Jabal told DCIP that a prison officer showed him a manipulated photo of his mother, falsely claiming that she and his sisters had been harmed.
When Abu Jabal reacted, he said, guards cuffed him and beat him while he was suspended about a meter above the ground.
His mother told DCIP that since returning home, her son has suffered from nightmares, sudden screaming and episodes of losing bladder control. “He cowers in fear of being struck,” she said.
Majayda described similar treatment, saying he was blindfolded, beaten and electrocuted during interrogation. He said guards marked an “X” on his back, indicating he would be transferred to prison.
After spending more than 12 hours in the “disco room,” he said he was stripped, exposed to freezing air for two days, and later placed in solitary confinement with his hands and feet bound.
DCIP reports that the boys’ accounts are consistent with testimony from other detainees held at Sde Teiman.
Israeli authorities have faced growing scrutiny over alleged abuses at the site, though Israel has denied systematic mistreatment at its detention facilities.
