DaysofPal- A displaced Palestinian man in the Gaza Strip is facing a life-threatening medical crisis as he battles a rare autoimmune disorder known as pemphigus vulgaris, prompting urgent appeals for medical evacuation.
Ibrahim Abu Aram has been suffering from a severe skin condition for several years. The disease causes painful blistering of the skin and mucous membranes and can become fatal without specialized treatment. According to medical sources, his condition has deteriorated dramatically due to prolonged reliance on high-dose corticosteroids, which weakened his immune system.
Complications have reportedly included sepsis and the development of serious brain abscesses. Doctors say Abu Aram is now experiencing persistent muscle spasms and partial paralysis affecting his tongue, right hand, and right foot, leaving him unable to move independently or carry out daily activities.
Medical professionals warn that continued delays in accessing advanced care pose an immediate threat to his life. Specialized treatment for his condition is not currently available in Gaza, where the healthcare system has been severely strained by ongoing conflict and infrastructure damage.
For four years, Abu Aram has been waiting for permission to travel outside Gaza for treatment. However, war conditions and border restrictions have prevented his evacuation. His case has recently drawn widespread attention on social media, where activists have called for urgent international intervention to facilitate his transfer to a hospital capable of providing the necessary care.
Rights advocates emphasize that his request is not extraordinary but centers on the basic right to health and survival. Supporters say he hopes to recover and resume his role as a father and provider for his family, who are also living in displacement under difficult humanitarian conditions.
Health sources indicate that Abu Aram’s case reflects a broader medical crisis in the Gaza Strip. Dozens of patients with chronic and life-threatening illnesses require surgical interventions or treatment protocols unavailable locally due to damage to hospitals and shortages of equipment and medication.
Recent U.N. reports estimate that more than 18,500 patients in Gaza urgently need medical evacuation, including approximately 4,000 children. Many face uncertain outcomes amid continued border closures and restrictions that affect critical humanitarian cases.
International organizations have urged global actors to establish safe and sustainable humanitarian corridors for medical supplies.
They have also called for the resumption of medical evacuations to hospitals in the West Bank and East Jerusalem as an urgent measure to save lives.
Meanwhile, Abu Aram remains in his tent, enduring worsening pain while waiting for an opportunity to travel for treatment, a case that many say underscores the broader struggle for access to healthcare under prolonged crisis conditions.
