Qatar Slams Netanyahu’s “Civilization” Rhetoric, Decries Genocide in Gaza

DayofPal– A fierce diplomatic war of words has erupted between Qatar and Israel, as Doha condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent remarks framing the genocide in Gaza as a defense of “civilization.”

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry called the comments “inflammatory, irresponsible, and morally bankrupt,” blasting what it described as a grotesque attempt to justify atrocities under the guise of protecting Western values.

“Invoking the language of ‘civilization’ to excuse the massacre of innocent civilians,” said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Dr. Majed Al Ansari, “is the rhetoric of regimes throughout history that cloaked their crimes in noble lies.”

The condemnation comes as Gaza reels from months of Israeli bombardment and blockade. Over 52,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed. Entire neighborhoods lie in rubble.

With food and medicine running out, more than two million people are trapped under siege, starving and displaced in what humanitarian agencies have called a “total collapse.”

Netanyahu’s office recently lashed out at Qatar for supporting legal proceedings at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), where the Gulf state has urged international judges to halt Israel’s assault on Gaza and ensure immediate humanitarian access.

In a sharp rebuke, Netanyahu accused Qatar of “siding with Hamas” and claimed the country must “choose between civilization and barbarism.”

Qatar, long a key mediator in captives’ talks and ceasefire efforts, dismissed the accusation as a distraction from the real issue: Israel’s mounting war crimes and deepening isolation on the world stage.

“The Palestinian people in Gaza are living through one of the darkest humanitarian catastrophes in modern history,” said Al Ansari. “They are being suffocated by blockade, starved by design, denied shelter and medicine, and now lectured about civilization. Is this truly the model of civilization being promoted?”

Qatar reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to international law and to the defense of oppressed peoples worldwide, regardless of political pressure or threats.

Al Ansari emphasized that Qatar continues to work with Egypt, the United States, and other regional partners to secure a ceasefire, open humanitarian corridors, and build a peace rooted in justice, not in coercion or double standards.

Meanwhile, at the ICJ in The Hague, Qatar’s legal envoy, Mutlaq bin Majed Al-Qahtani, accused Israel of genocide, systematic starvation, and deliberate destruction of Palestinian life. “This is not warfare,” he told the court. “This is an erasure of an entire generation.”
