DaysofPal – The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club reported Saturday that the majority of prisoners released under the “Flood of Freedom” deal, as well as those freed after Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza, are suffering from serious health issues, with many requiring hospitalization.
In a statement, the organization highlighted widespread abuses inflicted by Israeli occupation authorities on detainees, as documented by human rights groups and firsthand testimonies from released prisoners. These include severe torture, medical neglect, and deliberate starvation.
The club underscored systematic mistreatment, including brutal beatings by Israeli special units, which appear designed to inflict long-term injuries or even death. The deaths of former detainees Farouq Al-Khatib and Ismail Taqatqa, who succumbed to their injuries shortly after release, serve as tragic examples.
With the release of 183 prisoners in the fifth phase of the deal, medical teams and rights groups have sounded the alarm over their deteriorating health conditions. Some required immediate hospital transfers, reflecting the extent of abuse suffered in Israeli prisons.
Currently, more than 10,000 Palestinians remain imprisoned in Israeli detention centers, excluding the hundreds from Gaza who face enforced disappearance, according to the club. It warned that time is a critical factor, as prolonged detention increases the risk of irreversible harm to detainees.
Beyond the prisoners themselves, Israel has reportedly terrorized their families, subjecting them to home raids, threats, arrests, and, in some cases, extrajudicial killings. The club also accused Israeli occupation of psychological manipulation, falsely informing families that their loved ones would be released, only to later withhold them.
Among those freed Saturday were chronically ill detainees, including Mohammed Abrash, Ali Haroub (who suffers from cancer), Alaa Al-Hums, and Anas Masalma. The club stressed that many former prisoners now battle life-threatening, chronic illnesses due to years of systematic medical neglect.
As international attention remains focused on the broader war, rights groups continue to call for urgent intervention to protect Palestinian detainees from further abuse and prevent more deaths in Israeli custody.
