On June 17, 2022, Ahead of its 2022 annual congress, the Polish political party Razem recognized that Israel is an apartheid state and stated its endorsement to the nonviolent, Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestments, and Sanctions (BDS) movement for Palestinian rights.
The Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC) warmly welcomed Razem’s principled solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for freedom, justice, and equality. Its position is particularly inspiring as we witness in Central-Eastern Europe rising repression, heightened anti-Palestinian racism, and strong ties between far-right governments and parties with Israel’s apartheid and settler-colonial regime.
Razem’s recognition of the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and calls for ending Israel’s ethnic cleansing of Palestinians is particularly praiseworthy.
as it stated, “We call on all states to fulfill their legal and moral duty to end their complicity in Israeli apartheid, as they eventually did in apartheid, South Africa. The first step is to acknowledge apartheid.”
Razem recognizes the right of Palestinians to have a capital in Jerusalem and opposes Israel’s illegal occupation of the eastern part of the city. “We recognize the rights of Palestinian refugees under UN Resolution 194. We call on the international community to draw consequences from Israel for its failure to respect international law and UN resolutions.”
“We call on Israel to cooperate with the International Criminal Court in The Hague and on the Palestinian Authority to maintain this cooperation. We recognize that Israel is pursuing a policy in its own territory and in the occupied Palestinian territory that favors or discriminates against citizens along ethnic lines,” This policy meets the criteria of the crimes of apartheid and persecution under the 1973 Apartheid Convention and the 1998 Rome Statute. We support the international Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions campaign led by Palestinian civil society.”
They followed with a list of demands:
- An immediate halt to attacks on civilians,
- An end to the occupation of the West Bank by the Israeli army,
- An end to the blockade of Gaza by Israeli and Egyptian troops,
- A halt to settlement activities in the occupied territories,
- The resumption of talks in partnership between the Israeli and Palestinian sides on a joint solution to the points of contention
- A strong reaction by international organizations to events in Gaza and pressure on Israel to explain the events,
- Pressure from the European Union, as a close partner of Israel, for the implementation of the above points,
- The involvement of all Palestinian groups in stopping attacks on civilians.
