DaysofPal- The Palestinian Journalists’ Protection Centre (PJPC) reported that Israel has begun the new year by killing a journalist every 24 hours in the Gaza Strip.
The center condemned the killing of young Palestinian photographer Arej Shahin in an Israeli bombing of the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza.
PJPC also highlighted the murder of photojournalist Omar Al-Diraoui, who died in a bombing that targeted his home in the Al-Zawaida area, and journalist Hassan Al-Qishawi, who was martyred on Thursday following an Israeli strike on his home in Gaza City.
PJPC emphasized that the international community’s failure to protect journalists undermines its credibility and weakens its efforts to uphold human rights and support international principles.
It further stated that “these crimes occur amidst suspicious international silence and unconditional American support for the Israeli occupation government, which emboldens it to commit more crimes against Palestinian civilians, including journalists.”
The center renewed its call for the international community to take immediate action to stop these grave violations and hold the perpetrators accountable. It also urged the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to investigate these crimes and prosecute those responsible.
Since the start of the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, Israeli occupation forces have systematically targeted Palestinian journalists through deliberate killings, arrests, and bombings of their workplaces and vehicles. These actions are aimed at silencing the truth and preventing the documentation of Israeli crimes against Palestinian civilians.
The number of journalists killed by Israeli forces since the beginning of this campaign has reached 207.
