The Palestine Center for Prisoners Studies PCPS revealed on Tuesday, September 6, that the number of Palestinian prisoners’ deans has risen to 286 deans as more prisoners have entered their 21st year in Israeli prisons.
In a statement on Tuesday, PSPC explained that the prisoners’ deans are the ones who spent more than 20 years in Israeli prisons in a row.
Since the start of August 2022, 26 Palestinian prisoners have joined the list of prisoners’ deans as they entered their 21st consecutive year in Israeli prisons.
The Palestine Center pointed out that 25 of the prisoners’ deans were arrested before the Oslo Accords, including the oldest deans Kareem and Maher Younis detained since 1983.
PCPS asserted that Israel’s continued detention of these prisoners constitutes a disgrace to the international community, adding that these prisoners are suffering from enormous diseases due to the long year of detention and medical negligence.
The PCPS called on all official institutions and human rights centers to strive hard to launch a strong international campaign to demand the release of the old and sick prisoners.
According to recent data released by the Palestinian Prisoners Club, Israel holds 4450 Palestinian prisoners in its prisons, including 32 women, 175 children, and 600 sick prisoners.
