Hundreds of Palestinian citizens demonstrated Monday, August 21, near the separation fence, east of Gaza, to commemorate the 58th anniversary burning of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by an Israeli settler.
While protesting peacefully, Israeli forces successively fired tear gas bombs and live bullets at them, injuring two Palestinian protesters.
Today marks the 54th anniversary of the Zionist crime that took place in 1969 when the Al-Aqsa Mosque was deliberately set ablaze by an Israeli colonizer.
On August 21, 1969, radical Australian Jewish extremist Michael Dennis broke into the Al-Aqsa Mosque and intentionally set fire to the east wing of its compound, which sent shockwaves through the hearts of Palestinians and Muslims worldwide.
The fire took up more than one-third of the mosque’s space, scorching more than 1500 square meters out of the mosque’s 3,500 square meters.
