DaysofPal- The Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission has sounded the alarm over the deteriorating humanitarian and medical conditions of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention, denouncing the systematic neglect and intentional abuse by Israeli prison services.
In a statement released after a lawyer visited the Negev Desert Prison, the commission reported that prisoners are suffering from widespread skin infections due to the lack of hygiene and cleaning supplies, noting that the administration deliberately withholds basic health essentials.
Food provided to detainees, the statement added, is inadequate in both quantity and quality, further worsening their daily hardship and overall health.
The commission also highlighted that prisoners are enduring freezing conditions without access to warm clothing or blankets, forcing many to remain awake through cold nights as they struggle against both the chill and neglect.
Meanwhile, Israeli special units continue to raid cells, physically assault detainees, and confiscate personal belongings as part of what the commission called a “policy of intimidation and collective punishment.” Even those with severe health problems are reportedly denied medical care.
Warning of a rapidly worsening humanitarian crisis in the Negev facility, the commission urged international and human rights bodies to take swift action to stop these ongoing abuses.
It held the Israeli occupation forces entirely responsible for the physical and psychological suffering of the prisoners.
