DaysofPal- The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has sounded the alarm over the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip, warning that the Israeli actions continue to devastate the enclave despite the declared ceasefire.
In a report released Wednesday, the rights group said that the Israeli military has maintained a pattern of systematic violence, targeting civilians, enforcing a crippling blockade, and obstructing the entry of humanitarian aid, medical equipment, and rescue teams.
Strict restrictions have also been imposed on rubble removal and the search for the missing, further deepening the humanitarian catastrophe.
According to the report, over 270,000 Palestinians have been killed, injured, or detained since October 7, 2023, equivalent to about 12% of Gaza’s population.
“The effects of this campaign have touched every single family and home in Gaza,” the organization stated.
The Euro-Med Monitor documented the killing of more than 75,190 Palestinians, including 70,248 civilians (90%), among them 21,310 children and 13,987 women.
An additional 173,200 people have been injured, with tens of thousands suffering from life-altering disabilities such as amputations, burns, spinal injuries, and vision loss, in addition to severe psychological trauma caused by the destruction and loss of loved ones.
The report further revealed that around 40,000 people, including 21,000 children, are now living with permanent or long-term disabilities.
It also noted that 45,600 children have lost one or both parents, while thousands more remain unaware of their families’ fate amid the large number of people still missing beneath the rubble or in Israeli detention centers.
The Monitor recorded 482 deaths due to hunger and malnutrition, including 160 children, stressing that 100% of Gaza’s population is suffering from acute food insecurity caused by the Israeli deliberate starvation policy, despite the limited entry of aid.
“The entire population of Gaza is enduring collective psychological trauma,” the report said, noting that 99% of residents have been displaced at least once in the past two years as a result of home demolitions, forced evacuations, or fear of attack.
The report also detailed widespread destruction under the Israeli “scorched-earth” policy, with 80% of Gaza’s infrastructure either destroyed or heavily damaged.
This includes 555,000 housing units, 3,300 industrial sites, 191 media offices, and 621 schools. Additionally, 95% of schools and universities and all hospitals have been hit, along with 890 mosques, three churches, and 205 historical and archaeological sites.
The Euro-Med Monitor called on the international community to ensure that the ceasefire does not become an obstacle to accountability, urging the initiation of legal proceedings in international and national courts.
The group also demanded economic, diplomatic, and military sanctions against the Israeli occupation, including an arms embargo, asset freezes, travel bans, and the suspension of preferential trade agreements.
Finally, the rights group emphasized the need to tackle the root causes of the crisis that has afflicted the Palestinian people for 77 years by ending the Israeli occupation of territories seized in 1967, dismantling the settlement and apartheid regime, lifting the illegal blockade on Gaza, and ensuring justice, reparations, and self-determination for Palestinians.
