The Palestinian prisoner Ashraf Nofal, from the town of Deir Sharaf, west of occupied Nablus, entered Tuesday, May 23, 2023, his 23rd year in the Israeli occupation prisons.
The Palestinian Prisoner’s Club stated that the Israeli military court had sentenced Ashraf to 40 years in prison, while his brother Louay had been sentenced to life imprisonment.
The Club pointed out that, while in Israeli prisons, the prisoner Nawfal obtained, a high school diploma, a bachelor’s degree in social sciences, and a master’s degree.
It’s noteworthy that the Prisoner Nawfal is married and a father of three children, and that his eldest daughter died while she was in prison as he was deprived to bid the last farewell to her.
Israeli occupation is currently holding more than 1,000 Palestinian detainees without charge or trial, the highest number since 2003, according to the Israeli human rights group HaMoked.
Israeli occupation authorities currently hold some 4900 Palestinians in prisons, including 160 children and 31 women.
In the absence of strong pressure to stop the systemic inhumane abuses, the racist and fascist policies of the Prison Service Administration have a negative impact on Palestinian detainees.
