Palestinian Imam Yousuf Al-Baz was taken on Monday, February 20, 2023, to Israeli prisons to serve a 16-month sentence issued by the Israeli occupation.
Palestinian media sources shared a video of Sheikh Al-Baz sending a message before entering the Israeli prisons where he is scheduled to serve 16 months.
Sheikh Al-Baz said that Israel does not have even a shred of justice and it is the real enemy of the Palestinian people and Al-Aqsa Mosque.
In addition, lawyer Khaled Zabarqa said that this prison sentence comes in the context of the persecution that Sheikh Youssef Al-Baz has been subjected to in recent years because of his support to Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa.
Al-Baz, 64, from the city of Lod, was detained last year over claims of inciting violence on social media, referring to his posts published during the Israeli offensive on Gaza in May 2021.
Following his release, he was placed under house arrest, fitted with an electronic tag, banned from travel, instructed to pay NIS20,000 to the court and prohibited from using the internet.
