Mass trial of Palestinian and Jordanian detainees in Saudi Arabia

Days of Palestine – Riyadh

Human rights and family sources confirmed that the Saudi authorities would subject Palestinian and Jordanian detainees to a mass trial today, Sunday.

The identical sources told Saudi Leaks that the Saudi regime will subject all Palestinian detainees to a mass trial today, Sunday, after deciding to hold trials for them from Sunday to Thursday.

The sources expected that the Saudi regime would release a number of Palestinian and Jordanian detainees in light of the indications of rapprochement between Hamas and the Saudi regime.

Last Wednesday, the head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, said that he is looking forward to a Saudi “judicial decision and royal will” to close the file of Palestinian detainees in the kingdom.

This came in a press statement in response to news that this week has been set as a date for the verdict against Palestinian and Jordanian detainees in Saudi Arabia.

Haniyeh expressed his hope that the judgment pronouncement sessions would culminate in the release of all Palestinian detainees, led by Hamas leader Dr. Mohammed Al-Khudari.

He appealed to Saudi Arabia to release the detainees “based on the historical positions of the Kingdom and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in support of the Palestinian people and their just cause.”

In February 2019, Saudi Arabia arrested more than 60 Jordanians and Palestinians residing in it.

Among them is the former Hamas representative to the Kingdom of Al-Khoudari, on charges they deny the validity of “providing financial support to the Palestinian resistance.”

And on Tuesday, the head of the Jordanian Detainees Committee in Saudi Arabia, Khader Mashaikh, said that the Riyadh authorities had set next week as a date to pronounce the verdict against Jordanian and Palestinian detainees they have held for nearly two years.

He explained that the decision was issued abruptly, as the Saudi authorities set the days from Sunday to Thursday to pronounce their verdict so that they are divided into batches.

Since the start of talking about the issue of these detainees, Riyadh has not issued any comment, and it usually says that the competent courts deal with the detainees and that they “enjoy all their rights guaranteed to them by the system.”

On June 21, a Saudi court postponed the sentencing hearing against these detainees to October 3, for the second time, after it had previously been delayed in February 2021.

Last December, Haniyeh renewed his demand for the Saudi authorities to release Palestinian detainees in its prisons.

This came during Haniyeh’s speech after the activities of the seventh electronic political conference of the Hamas movement.

“We demand the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and officials in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to release the Palestinian detainees.”

“It is not permissible for them to remain in prisons because they have a relationship with Hamas, which has not tampered with any country’s internal affairs.”

Haniyeh welcomed the Gulf reconciliation, the rearrangement of the Gulf house, the restoration of consideration for the Cooperation Council, and the end of the siege on Qatar.

“Any reconciliations in the region are ultimately in the interest of the Palestinian cause and reflect positively on us.”
