Days of Palestine – Gaza
Palestinian medical officials said the Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 136 people in Gaza since Monday, including 34 children and 21 women, and wounded 950 others.
At least 10 Palestinians lost their lives on Saturday when an airstrike hit a three-story building in the al-Shati refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip.
The victims were all members of a family. Medical teams said a months-old baby was the only survivor of the Israeli aerial assault.
Reacting to the bloodshed, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said, “The crime committed by the occupiers against our nation is a full-scale massacre that shows the volume of the Zionist regime’s savage terrorism against our nation. This crime shows that the occupiers are incapable in the face of the resistance in Jerusalem al-Quds and the West Bank and Gaza.”
On Saturday morning, Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television channel network reported that boats belonging to the Israeli army targeted the port of Gaza, without elaborating on further details.
Israeli occupation warplanes launched raids beginning late Monday in the Gaza Strip in an offensive the army called Operation Guardians of the Wall.
Israeli warplanes launched a series of air raids on various areas in the besieged enclave that started with fatal strikes in the northern city of Beit Hanun.
Palestinian resistance factions in Gaza had fired a barrage of rockets at Israeli targets earlier on Monday in retaliation to the Israeli attacks on the Aqsa Mosque and Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in Occupied East Jerusalem over the past few days.
Tensions have been running high in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem since last week after an Israeli court ordered the evictions of Palestinian families.
Palestinians protesting in solidarity with residents of Sheikh Jarrah have been targeted by Israeli forces.
Israel occupied East Jerusalem during the 1967 Arab-Israeli war and annexed the entire city in 1980 – a move that has never been recognized by the international community.
