The Palestinian Authority welcomed the US decision to resume aid that the previous US administration froze to the Palestinians, and described the move as "positive."

The Palestinian Presidency stated, in a statement reported by the official news agency on its website, that the decision to resume aid "will contribute to providing education and health to hundreds of thousands of students and millions of citizens living in camps in Palestine and neighboring countries."

It added, "In addition, other economic and development aid to the Gaza Strip and the West Bank through the United States Agency for International Development will contribute to supporting the infrastructure and basic services needed to face the difficult conditions experienced by the Palestinian people under occupation and due to the Corona pandemic."

The Presidency affirmed its readiness to "work with international parties, specifically the International Quartet, to reach a political solution that guarantees security and stability in the region."

The Palestinian Presidency renewed its commitment to the two-state solution based on international legitimacy, and its willingness to respond to any international efforts to reach this goal.

In the same context, Ramallah Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh welcomed the American move, according to a statement issued by his office.

Shtayyeh said, "We are looking forward to the restoration of political relations with the United States in order to achieve for our people their legitimate rights to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, and to reopen the American consulate in occupied Jerusalem."

He added, "We also hope that the United States will put pressure on Israel to curb the desire for expansion and settlement in the occupied lands, especially the ethnic cleansing that Jerusalem is subjected to."

The US State Department announced in a statement, on Wednesday, Washington’s intention to resume aid to the Palestinian people, including the restoration of $ 85 million in direct aid and $ 150 million in humanitarian aid for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA).
