Days of Palestine – Jerusalem
Two Jerusalemites were forced late last night to demolish a house and a restaurant, in the villages of Jabal Al Mukaber and Silwan, by a decision of the Israeli occupation municipality.
The Wadi Hilweh Information Center in Jerusalem stated that the citizen Ahmed Hijazi demolished his house in the Ain al-Luza neighborhood in Silwan, and Muhammad Abu Hussein demolished his commercial shop, which is a restaurant in Jabal al-Mukaber, after they were given until Monday morning to carry out the demolition, and their threat that the municipality's mechanisms would destroy them and charge them to pay "Demolition fee" for the municipality's crews and the forces accompanying them.
Hegazy explained that he was forced to demolish his house after giving him hours to implement the decision, and threatening to impose a "demolition fee" on him, whose value is 100-150 thousand shekels.
Hijazi has been living with his family in the house since 2014, and he said that I restored the house to live in, and after 3 years the municipality imposed a“ building violation ”worth 25,000 shekels, and during that period I tried to license the house, then the municipality issued a decision to demolish it.
Citizen Muhammad Abu Hussein emptied his restaurant store, then proceeded to demolish it, pointing out that the shop has existed for 20 years, and the occupation municipality issued a decision 3 years ago to demolish it, and imposed a financial violation on it, and was able to freeze the demolition during the past years, until the beginning of ongoing March.
Abu Hussein explained that the municipality forced him about 4 months ago to demolish his house in the village himself.
The demolitions come under the pretext of non-licensing that the occupation municipality uses to prevent the natural expansion of the Palestinians, restrict them, and confiscate their lands in order to Judaize the Holy City and take full control of the land.
Since the occupation of the city in 1967, the occupation has demolished more than 1,900 homes in Jerusalem, and it has pursued a systematic, racist policy of aggression towards Jerusalemites. With the aim of tightening control over Jerusalem and Judaizing it.
Among these measures, the Israeli occupation authorities demolished homes and establishments after placing many obstacles in the way of issuing building permits for the benefit of Jerusalemites.
