Days of Palestine – Gaza
Hamas Movement said that its political bureau chief, Ismail Haniyeh, continues his diplomatic movement in support of the elections process and the results of the Cairo dialogue.
Hamas added that Haniyeh sent a letter this evening to the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, to express his appreciation for Turkey's stances in support of the Palestinian people in the various stations, and put it in the form of details related to the course and results of the Cairo dialogue, especially since Turkey is one of the guarantors of the agreement alongside Egypt, Qatar, and Russia.
Hamas Chief confirmed his movement’s decision to move forward on the path of reconciliation by holding general elections in its three stages, legislative, presidential, and the Palestinian National Council, according to the movement’s official website.
In his message, Haniyeh referred to Turkey’s hoped-for role in these elections, represented in ensuring that the elections are held on the specified dates according to the presidential decree, and to ensure their fairness and freedom in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, as well as putting pressure on Turkey’s relationship with the international community on the Israeli occupation not to obstruct the holding of elections or interference in the electoral process, especially in occupied Jerusalem.
He also called on Turkey to participate in monitoring the elections and to work with the international community to respect the results and not to repeat the post-2006 position in which the will of the Palestinian people was not respected.
The head of the movement indicated in his message that Hamas is committed to implementing all that has been agreed upon, and will work according to its national responsibility to provide the free and necessary atmosphere for elections that express the civilized face of the Palestinian people.
