Gaza has witnessed a low demand on lambs to be slaughtered this Eid as a result of the current deteriorating economic situtation.
According to Palestinian economist Mohammed Abu Jeyyab, Palestinians are unable to spend on the sacrifice due to some complex problems, such as the charities that have suffered from cut back, coronavrirus pandemic and the civil servants of work for the PA who have also suffered cuts in their wages.
Abu Jeyyab warned that demand on the sacrifices coul fall by more than 50 per cent. However, Gazan merchants are still waiting to see if charities will be able to provide lambs to those in need in Gaza to support the market.
Palestinian farmer Muhammad Ayed said Palestinians in Gaza this year are looking for lighter animals so the costs they incur are reduced.
