A large Israeli army force raided early this morning several neighborhoods in the city of Ramallah, the seat of the Palestinian Authority, and detained a university student and others, according to local sources.
They said Israeli forces were seen in several neighborhoods of the city in the pre-dawn hours as well as in the attached town of Beitunia where the army detained Ruba Assi, a student at Birzeit University, after raiding her home in Beitunia, and Majed Neirat, from the same town.
The army also detained Hussein Abu Kweik and Jamal Tawil, two local leaders, after raiding their homes in al-Bireh, Ramallah’s twin city.
Residents clashed with the soldiers during the raids, said the sources. The forces fired rubber-coated metal bullets and teargas canisters at the stone-throwing youths. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
