Days Of Palestine – Jerusalem
The Department of Jerusalem’s Awqaf and Aqsa Mosque’s Affairs decided on Sunday to close the Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Jerusalem to Muslim worshipers as of Monday morning and until further notice as the coronavirus continues to spread in the country.
The Awqaf and Aqsa council said it decided during an emergency meeting to temporarily suspend the arrival of Muslim worshipers through all the Aqsa Mosque’s gates as of dawn on March 23, in response to the recommendations of religious and medical authorities.
However, the Mosque’s Awqaf workers and guards will continue to enter the holy site and the Islamic call to prayer will be recited daily as usual, the Awqaf council added.
“We feel bitter about taking this decision, but we had to do so to protect citizens’ lives and health,” the council said.
The Palestinian Department of Jerusalem’s Awqaf and Aqsa Mosque’s Affairs in the holy city is an affiliate of the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, which administers the Aqsa Mosque.
