Days Of Palestine – West Bank
Israeli forces Wednesday overnight detained seven Palestinians and ransacked a number of houses and stores across the West Bank, said the Palestine Prisoners’ Society (PPS).
PPS confirmed in a press statement that Israeli forces rounded up two Palestinians after ransacking the houses of their families in Jalazone refugee camp, north of Ramallah, and al-Am'ari refugee camps, south of al-Bireh.
In Bethlehem district, Israeli military vehicles stormed Duheisha refugee camp, south of Bethlehem, where soldiers rounded up two others.
In Hebron district, PPS confirmed a military raid in Surra village, south of Hebron city, resulting in the detention of another.
In Salfit district, soldiers carried out a predawn raid in Biddya town, west of Salfit city, where they detained a 57-year-old Palestinian.
The detainee was identified as the Director of the Qalqilia District Education Department.
In Qalqilia district, a large number of soldiers barged their way into Nabi Ilias village, east of Qalqilia city, where they thoroughly searched several stores and checked the recordings of surveillance cameras. No detentions were reported though.
In Jerusalem district, Israeli police rounded up the owner of a bakery shop in Bab Hutta neighborhood of the Old City of Jerusalem after shutting down his shop.
Meanwhile, soldiers conducted a similar raid in Anata town, north of Jerusalem, where they ransacked five houses, turning them upside down.
One house owner was identified as a local anti-wall and settlement activist.
Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.
These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.
According to Palestinian figures, roughly 5,700 Palestinians — including numerous women and children — are currently languishing in Israeli detention facilities.
