Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum warned of a severe deterioration of the health situation of a number of sick prisoners inside Israeli jails, noting that it requires a serious official and popular stand to protect them from the oppression of occupation.

Barhoum, in a press statement stressed that the occupation is deliberately restricting the conditions of the prisoners and depriving them of their most basic human rights of living as guaranteed by all international norms and laws.

He added:”We are shocked and we deplore the suspicious silence of human rights and international institutions regarding these heinous crimes of the Israeli occupation against Palestinian prisoners, which have claimed the lives of more than sixty prisoners, and about 700 prisoners are still suffering from chronic and serious diseases which resulted in a deterioration in their health condition.”

Barhoum called upon the Palestinian people to solidify the movement of solidarity with the prisoners in order to highlight their cause.

He urged the Palestinian official institution to play a practical role in the defense of prisoners in international forums, and called on human rights organizations to continue their work to expose the ongoing Israeli crimes against prisoners.
