Fawzi Barhoum, spokesperson of Hamas Movement following up on the International Criminal Court (ICC), confirmed in a statement that "the decision announced by the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to request an opinion by the Pre-Trial Chamber regarding the scope of the Court’s territorial jurisdiction in the situation in Palestine is a positive and encouraging step that brings us closer to the opening of a criminal investigation into the war crimes committed in Palestine, putting an end to the impunity of the perpetrators and contributing to the achievement of justice."
He added that the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas welcomes the announcement by the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, "Fatou Bensouda," and we consider it a step in the right direction that exposes the Israeli occupation crimes to the international system, the magnitude of the injustice suffered by the Palestinian people and the clarity of the truth that The Israeli occupation tried to hide it and used all its tools to mislead international public opinion, justice and international institutions.
"This announcement should be translated into actions on the ground in order to hold the Israeli occupation’s leaders accountable for their crimes and violations against the Palestinian people and their holy places," he said.
He concluded, "The Hamas movement expresses its full readiness to facilitate the tasks of any committees emanating in particular and to cooperate with it and provide it with all the documents, evidence that demonstrate the occupation’s crimes and violations against Palestinian people."
