Days of Palestine, Jerusalem -Israeli occupation authorities demolished on Tuesday private playground, uprooted trees in the neighbourhood of Silwan, East Jerusalem.
Silwan resident Khalid al-Zeir said that armed Israeli forces escorted excavators and inspectors from the Jerusalem municipality to a playground he built in Al-Abbasiyya in Silwan.
The excavators levelled the land and demolished the playground, a single room used for storage, a poultry pen, walls, and fences, Al-Zeir said, adding that a number of trees were also cut down. The playground is used by children.
Al-Zeir said he was notified by the Israeli Nature and National Parks Authority that his playground was built on a “historically important archaeological area,” where construction or changes to the landscape are prohibited.
Wadi Al-Hilweh Information Centre confirmed the demolition of the Playground. Director of the Centre Jawad Siyam said that the Israeli occupation shut down the whole neighbourhood during the demolition.
He also said that the Israeli occupation had beaten a number of the Palestinians in the neighbourhood during the demolition of the playground.
