Days of Palestine, Jerusalem –Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, PM Benjamin Netanyahu have denied invitations to meet peacemaker Jimmy Carter.
The former US President Jimmy Carter is scheduled to visit the Gaza Strip within the comng ten days. He got the permission from the Israeli authorities.
Rivlin and Netanyahu were reported by the Israeli TV Channel 10 as saying that they would not meet with Carter due to his “anti-Israeli remarks.”
Carter, who forged the Camp David Peace Accords which consolidated Israeli foot in the Middle East in the 1970s, has become an increasingly outspoken critic of Israeli policies; especially, of Netanyahu.
During the latest major Israeli offensive on Gaza, Carter charged that there was “no justification in the world for what Israel is doing.”
He also accused Netanyahu of blocking steps toward a two-state solution and working toward a “Greater Israel.”
However, observers believe that the top Israeli officials had refused to meet with Carter just because his insistence to visit the Gaza Strip.
His visit is expected to grab the eyes of mass media and this would shed the light on the tragic situation of the Gaza Strip after the three Israeli wars during the strict eight year Israeli blockade for the coastal enclave.
