Days of Palestine, Reports –Egypt has decided to completely remove the city of Rafah to expand the buffer zone with besieged Gaza Strip.
“The establishment of a buffer zone requires the complete removal of the city and, in fact, it will be completely destroyed,” Governor of North Sinai Abdul-Fattah Harhour said in a Press conference on Wednesday.
He said that a new Rafah will be established, and until that happens, “each family whose home will be demolished will receive $210 as a down payment to rent a house.”
Cairo recognises its buffer zone is intended to fight terrorism in the Sinai and prevent cross border attacks on the Israeli occupation.
The governor made his remarks on the eve of the second stage of the evacuation operation in Rafah as 1,220 homes inhabited by 2,044 families will be evacuated and demolished during this stage.
