Days of Palestine, Reports –Turkish leaders said on Friday that protecting Islamic sites in the Holy Land is a sacred mission for them.
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan frankly warned that any attack against Al-Aqsa Mosque is no different than an attack on the Kaaba in the holy city of Mecca.
“Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa is not only a shrine for Palestinians, but is the shrine of all Muslims,” Erdoğan was quoted as saying on Friday during an official visit to the Turkmen capital, Ashgabat.”
“These actions [Israeli violations], this attempt launched against Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa can never be forgiven. Attacking Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa is similar to attacking the Kabaa,” Erdoğan added.
“The Israeli administration has to stop this despicableness, this barbarity,” he said. He also wondered: “What would it say if this kind of attack had been launched against synagogues?”
Meanwhile, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said on the same day that his country has already moved towards protecting Al-Aqsa Mosque.
He pledged to do whatever it takes for Al-Quds and Al-Aqsa Mosque. “We have given the required orders; we will launch initiatives everywhere, the UN being the first place in the world for supporting Al-Quds,” he said.
Turkey stands with the oppressed
While delivering a speech in an opening ceremony for some 21 facilities in the north-western Anatolian province of Bursa, he said: “Al-Quds has been entrusted with us by Hazrat Omar [Muslim caliph]. Al-Quds has been entrusted to us by Yavuz Sultan Selim [Ottoman Sultan] and Süleyman the Magnificent [Ottoman Sultan].
“Al-Quds has been entrusted to us by the last soldier of the Ottomans.

Al-Quds is our cause even if everybody else forgets and it will continue being our cause for eternity. Nobody can turn to a Turk and say ‘Al-Quds is not your cause.’”
Defending the whole Middle East, he said: “No one can say the Middle East, which includes Al-Quds, Mecca, Al-Madinah, Baghdad, Damascus and Cairo, is a swamp. If there is [some people] who changed it into a swamp, they are the oppressive regimes and occupiers –on top of them the Israeli government.”
Addressing the Israeli occupation, he said: “Be aware! Do not think that Muslims in the region are being suppressed by certain regimes so they will not turn to you… You have to know that there are some people who defend Syrians and Palestinians –It is the Turkish Republic. It will stand beside the oppressed everywhere and every time.”
