Days of Palestine, Reports –The Obama Administration announced on Thursday its support for Egypt’s measures regarding tightening siege on Gaza Strip.
Spokeswomen of the US Department of State Jen Psaki said that her country understands the Egyptian need to reinforce security on its borders with the Gaza Strip.
She presumed that Gaza is really behind the reportedly terrorist attacks that killed more than 30 Egyptian soldiers early this week.
“We understand the threat that [Egypt is] facing from the Sinai,” Psaki told reporters in the daily press briefing on Thursday. “That is why we have provided the Apache helicopters.”
Giving no attention to about 900 houses to be demolished along the borders and the environment risk of the 500-metre wide canal, which will be full of salty sea water, along the borders, Psaki stressed that her country is in support with the purgation measures.
“We also continue to encourage them [Egyptians] to take into account those that would be internally displaced by this,” she said, “but they are working through the plan and we are continuing to support their efforts to take steps to defend their own borders.”
In wake of a reportedly attack on Egyptian soldiers in Sinai early this week, Egypt has announced a complete closure of the Rafah Crossing with the Gaza, the main passage for the 1.8million resident of Gaza to the world.
Egypt also decided to set up a buffer zone along the 13km border with Gaza, including a 500-metre wide canal and all the houses of the residents of Egyptian Rafah be destroyed.
The Egyptian coup regime has always blamed Gaza for purported terrorist attacks, but it has never provided any true evidence on this.
