Days of Palestine, West Bank –Palestinian sources said on Tuesday that the Israeli occupation had arrested 16 Palestinian citizens from different areas in occupied West Bank.
Witnesses in Nablus, Bethlehem and Jenin said that large numbers of Israeli forces invaded those cities and broke into several houses during the night.
The witnesses reported detention of several Palestinian citizens from the three cities. Palestinian youths clashed with the Israeli troops, which responded by firing gas canisters at them.
Sources in the village of Yatta, south of Hebron, said that Israeli forces with armoured vehicles broke in the village and arrested three citizens.
Israeli media reported Israeli military statement saying that they arrested 12 wanted Palestinian suspects overnight. The suspects were transferred for interrogation.
The arrests are the latest in a series of West Bank sweeps by Israeli forces over the last several days.
It also comes hours after the Israeli intelligence service Shin Bet announced it had uncovered and thwarted a massive Hamas plot in the Palestinian territory to start a third intifada and overthrow the Palestinian Authority.
Palestinian officials said this not an excuse for the Israeli occupation to arrest Palestinian. Arrest incidents take place in the occupied West Bank on daily basis.
Political analyst in the Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz mocked the news writing on Twitter: “Shabak claimed that Hamas planned to carry out a coup in the West Bank using six pistols, seven RPGs and 20 M16 guns… Yes, it is true.”
