Days of Palestine, Cairo –Egyptian broker for the Palestinian-Israeli ceasefire talks in Cairo presented new proposal included lifting the eight-year old siege on Gaza.
An informed Palestinian source, very close to the Palestinian delegation in Cairo, said that the Egyptian proposal suggests putting off discussion on the issue of the sea and airports.
The proposal also postponed talks about disclosing information about potential Israeli soldiers arrested by Hamas in the battlefield.
Regarding the siege, the proposal suggested ending the siege and guaranteed free movement of people, goods and reconstruction material between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank based on terms agreed upon by the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the Israeli occupation.
It also cancelled the buffer zone along the eastern Gaza borders in return of redeployment of PA troops there starting from January 2015.
Regarding the fishing area, the proposal stipulates expanding it to six nautical miles with gradual expansion to 12 miles based on further understandings between the PA and the Israeli occupation.
The PA will coordinate with the Israeli occupation regarding financial issues related to the Gaza Strip, including the salaries of the employees in Gaza.
Egypt called upon both the Palestinian and the Israeli sides to accept this proposal and start a ceasefire based on them from Wednesday midnight.
It is worth mentioning that the Palestinian negotiators described the marathon talks during the past two days as “difficult, but serious.”
“The talks are difficult, but serious,” Moussa Abu-Marzouk, head of the Hamas delegation, wrote on his Facebook page. “The delegation needs to achieve the hopes of the people.”
