The student movement of the New York University School of Law has officially announced its support for the boycott, divestment, and sanctions movement against Israel (BDS).
The resolution was unanimously adopted by the College of Law Student Council, accusing Israeli academic institutions of complicity in the occupation and colonization of Palestine and state violence against Palestinians; By developing military equipment, weapons, drones, and surveillance technologies, and offering military training courses and positions for senior military officers.

They also accused it of direct complicity in apartheid, genocide and war crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinian people through its investments and contracts with companies that benefit from Israeli war crimes.

The movement called for ending student exchange programs with Israel and joining the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement.

Law school students described the academic exchange with Israeli universities as a form of propaganda that affirms the colonial and apartheid policy pursued by the occupying power.

students and suppressing voices supporting their struggle for self-determination.

The statement accused “student organizations at the university of receiving money from Israel, and of organizations that exert pressure on behalf of the State of Israel, and their mission includes supporting the occupying state, and practicing surveillance, intimidation and harassment of Palestine solidarity activists on campus.”

According to the decision, the boycott includes the Jewish student organization Hillel, the Camera organization, the public relations organization “Stand With Us” and other organizations.

The student movement’s statements were met with a wave of anger among faculty members at New York University, who suggested that law school students by their behavior deliberately oppose the views of Jewish and pro-Israel students.

In the context, a group claiming to be outreach at the university and calling itself the “City University of New York Alliance for Inclusion” launched calls to tear up the decision issued by the students of the Faculty of Law, describing it as a “disgrace” to Jewish students, stressing their right not to remain silent on such a decision. .

“The frenzy of demonizing Israel’s anti-Semitism under the cover of ‘anti-Zionism’ is sweeping American education and turning into attacks on Jewish life in the United States,” their letter read.

In a press statement to the American newspaper, “The New York Post,” a faculty member at New York University said that tensions around the focus of political opinions at the university have reached boiling point, noting that the debate over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has existed for decades, but the matter has become more complicated now with The growing movement to boycott Israel.

It is noteworthy that dozens of New York University professors had left their positions as faculty members after the latter issued another decision criticizing the Israeli policy, last July.

New York University is the largest public university in the United States, founded in 1847 as the first public institution of higher education in the country, and today it includes 25 colleges spread across the five boroughs of New York City, serving 275,000 students.
