DaysofPal- Dr. Munir Al-Bursh, Director of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, reported that Civil Defense teams have recovered the remains of over 100 individuals from the roads of northern Gaza. Most of the recovered bodies remain unidentified due to the extensive destruction.
More than 10,000 people remain buried beneath the debris of destroyed homes in northern Gaza, Dr. Al-Bursh said in a statement on Tuesday. More than 4,000 people have been confirmed killed and more are still missing as a result of the Israeli attacks, he confirmed. However, he warned that these figures are likely to rise as recovery efforts continue.
Dr. Al-Bursh condemned the actions of Israeli occupation forces, which reportedly targeted ambulances attempting to reach victims during the offensive. This obstruction left bodies lying in the streets for over 90 days, during which some were scavenged by stray dogs.
Palestinian Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal provided further insight into the challenges faced by rescue teams during the 15-month assault. He noted that many civilians, trapped under the rubble of their homes, died because rescue crews were unable to reach them. This was largely due to the limited resources available and the repeated targeting of emergency personnel and vehicles by the IOF.
Basal also explained that daily distress calls from injured residents went unanswered because the teams were either incapacitated or unable to operate safely. He emphasized that the deliberate targeting of rescue missions by Israeli forces has contributed significantly to the rising death toll in northern Gaza.
He said they hoped to recover the dead within 100 days, but were likely to be delayed by a deficit of bulldozers and other essential equipment.
According to figures released by Gaza’s health ministry on Tuesday, over 47,100 people have been killed, with the toll continuing to rise as new bodies were found under the rubble.
