DaysofPalestine— Israeli occupation forces have detained more than 100 Palestinians across the occupied West Bank since the beginning of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, according to a statement released Sunday by the Palestinian Prisoner Society and reported by Anadolu Agency.
In its statement, the group said the arrests began on Feb. 18, when Ramadan started in most West Bank provinces, including East Jerusalem. Among those detained were several women and children.
The organization described the arrests as accompanied by “severe beatings” and what it called organized acts of violence against detainees and their families. It also reported widespread property damage during raids, including the destruction of homes and the confiscation of vehicles, cash, and gold jewelry.
Meanwhile, Palestinian and Israeli human rights organizations estimate that more than 9,300 Palestinians are currently being held in Israeli prisons. The detainees include approximately 350 children. Rights groups allege that prisoners are subjected to torture, starvation, and medical neglect — conditions they say have contributed to the deaths of dozens of detainees.
The latest arrests come amid heightened Israeli military activity in the occupied West Bank. Israel has escalated operations there since launching its military campaign in Gaza on Oct. 8, 2023.
Since then, at least 1,117 Palestinians have been killed and around 11,500 others injured in attacks carried out by Israeli forces and illegal settlers across the West Bank, according to Palestinian sources.
The surge in detentions and violence has further intensified tensions in the territory during Ramadan, a period traditionally marked by prayer, family gatherings, and communal worship.
