DaysofPal – Israeli settlers set fire to a mosque in the village of Tal, southwest of Nablus in the occupied West Bank, early Monday and spray-painted racist and inciting slogans on its walls, including “Revenge” and “Price Tag.”
According to eyewitnesses, the blaze broke out at the entrance of the mosque, damaging the main gate and exterior façade. Residents of the village managed to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading inside the building.
The local Waqf Department reported that settlers attempted to burn Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque during the early morning hours and said it is following up on the incident with the relevant authorities.
The Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs strongly condemned what it described as an attempt by “settler gangs” to torch the mosque.
The ministry stated that these groups, operating under the protection of Israeli forces, carried out attacks on 45 mosques during 2025, reflecting a continued pattern of targeting places of worship and Palestinian property.
Villages and towns in the Nablus governorate have experienced repeated assaults by so-called “Price Tag” groups and “Hilltop Youth,” which target property and religious sites, including the burning of mosques and the writing of inflammatory slogans on their walls.
These attacks are concentrated in areas close to settlements and outposts built on Palestinian land.
Violence in the West Bank has escalated since the start of the war on Gaza in October 2023, which lasted two years. The period has seen killings, arrests, forced displacement, and settlement expansion. According to Palestinian sources, 1,116 Palestinians have been killed, about 11,500 injured, and nearly 22,000 arrested in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
