OCHA: Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza Reaches Worst Levels

DaysofPal-The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has issued a dire warning about the escalating humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, describing it as the most severe since the onset of the conflict 18 months ago. In a press release published on Monday, OCHA emphasized that the situation is “likely the worst” since the Israeli genocidal war began, and humanitarian aid flows into the Strip were halted.

According to OCHA, the crisis has reached unprecedented levels due to an ongoing blockade imposed by Israeli occupation forces, which intensified after all crossings leading to Gaza were closed on March 2. This closure came amid accusations from international observers that Israeli genocide against Palestinians when airstrikes recommenced on March 18 following a two-month ceasefire.

Blockade Deepens Desperation

With no respite in sight, shortages of food, water, fuel, and medical supplies have forced local authorities in Gaza to implement strict rationing measures. Deliveries of essential goods have dwindled dramatically, leaving millions of civilians grappling with hunger, disease, and despair. The UN agency underscored that these conditions pose an existential threat to life across the territory.

“This is not just a deterioration—it’s a collapse,” said one senior OCHA official who requested anonymity. “We’re witnessing entire communities pushed to the brink of survival.”

The blockade also coincides with renewed violence in Gaza, where Israeli airstrikes continue to target areas already devastated by months of relentless bombardment. Civilian casualties mount daily, while hospitals struggle to operate without electricity or critical resources.

International Calls for Action

In response to the worsening crisis, European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas issued an urgent appeal to the Israeli occupation, urging the immediate resumption of humanitarian aid deliveries into Gaza. Speaking at a press conference in Brussels, Kallas condemned the complete blockade and reiterated the EU’s solidarity with the Palestinian people.

“The human toll and destruction in Gaza are unacceptable,” Kallas stated. “The EU calls on Israel to lift this blockade immediately and allow lifesaving assistance to reach those in desperate need.”

She further expressed concern over rising tensions in the West Bank, where settlement expansion continues unabated despite widespread condemnation. Kallas urged the Israeli occupation to halt its policies of land confiscation and displacement, warning that such actions exacerbate regional instability.

Tensions escalated earlier this month after the first phase of a fragile ceasefire agreement was breached by the Israeli occupation.

Global Outcry Mounts

Human rights organizations and global leaders have joined calls for accountability, demanding action to protect innocent lives caught in the crossfire. Amnesty International described Israeli violations as “collective punishment,” while the International Committee of the Red Cross warned of impending famine if aid does not resume promptly.
