Netanyahu said in an interview with Israeli Channel 14 late Sunday that he is willing to accept a partial deal with Hamas, during which some Israeli prisoners held in Gaza would be released, yet he is committed to carrying on with the war after the pause in fighting.
Netanyahu went on to reveal that he will not agree to any deal with factions that involve Hamas’ survival in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas movement has slammed his claims, saying that the stance expressed by the terrorist Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, in which he confirms his continuation of the genocidal war against unarmed civilians in the Gaza Strip, aiming for a partial agreement to secure the release of a few prisoners only to resume the war thereafter, is a clear indication of his rejection of the recent United Nations Security Council resolution and the proposal of US President Joe Biden.
Hamas’s insistance that any agreement must include a clear affirmation of a permanent ceasefire and a complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip was a necessary measure to thwart Netanyahu’s attempts at deception and to perpetuate aggression and genocide against our people.
Netanyahu’s remarks has also ignited Israelis as they contradicted the Israeli proposal presented by the U.S. President Joe Biden at the end of May.
In response to Netanyahu’s comments, the Israeli prisoners families’ Forum issued a press release condemning Netanyahu’s apprehension regarding the Israeli proposal.
“This action abandons 120 hostages and violates the state’s moral obligation to its citizens” and that “ending the fighting in Gaza without freeing the hostages would be an unprecedented national failure and a departure from the war’s objectives,” the statement reads.
“The families of the hostages will not allow the government and its leader to back away from their fundamental commitments to our loved ones’ fate. The responsibility and duty to return all hostages lies with the Prime Minister. There is no greater test than this,” the statement said.
Niva Wenkert, mother of Israeli hostage, said “if my country doesn’t save my son, we have no future here. On one day Netanyahu tells us that there’s a deal on the table, and that the hostages will be released and the other day he says something different. How can I not go crazy?”
“We don’t understand it. Does this mean that [Israel] gave up on all the hostages? There’s no partial deal. It’s like a partial pregnancy or a partial victory. It’s a complete failure,” Gil Dickmann, relative of Israeli hostage, added.
Expert in ceasefire talks commented that “partial deal that would see the release of only some Israeli hostages could sabotage the prospects of a deal. Netanyahu made it clear that he isn’t interested in the release of all the abductees. In a situation like this, Sinwar has no incentive to proceed with a deal.”
Israeli Knesset member Ron Katz to Netanyahu rebuked Netanyahu: “Enough, Prime Minister. Release this nation and go home. There will be no schools or streets named after you. People will remember you as the one who destroyed Israel. You have no solutions and ruined the hostage deal.”
