A lawsuit for war crimes and crimes against humanity has been filed in South Korea against seven senior Israeli officials over being complicit in the Israeli war on Gaza, according to Israeli media.
The lawsuit, filed by an organization affiliated with the left side of the political spectrum, confirmed that the seven Israeli officials were involved in planning, instructing, and executing crimes during Gaza war such as attacks on medical institutions, use of illegal weapons, including prohibited chemical weapons, and other violations during the eight and a half months of war on Gaza.
The lawsuit was filed against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Isaac Herzog, IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, ‘Defense Minister’ Yoav Galant, Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.
The organization seeks the extradition of these officials to South Korea for prosecution under South Korean law concerning crimes under the jurisdictions of the International Criminal Court.
Since October 7, more than 37,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed by the Israeli army in Gaza, with almost half of them being children. The high number of casualties and the mistreatment of Palestinian children have deeply concerned aid agencies, including the UN.
Save the Children, based in the UK, has called for an investigation into the whereabouts of Gaza’s missing children. They stress that an estimated 21,000 children are either lost, missing, detained, buried under rubble, or in mass graves as a result of Israeli military operations in Gaza.
Earlier this month, the UN added ‘Israel’ to the “blacklist” of countries responsible for harming children in conflict.
