DaysofPal– The United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has revealed that more than 21,000 children in Gaza have been left disabled as a result of the ongoing war. According to the Committee, an estimated 40,500 children have suffered new war-related injuries, with over half resulting in life-altering disabilities.
The figures, based on updated assessments by the UN and humanitarian partners, underscore the devastating and long-term toll the conflict has taken on Gaza’s youngest and most vulnerable population.
“This is not just a crisis of war; it is a crisis of humanity,” the Committee said, calling for urgent international action to protect children’s rights in armed conflict zones.
Meanwhile, child malnutrition continues to soar in Gaza, compounding the humanitarian emergency. The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) has projected that 132,000 children under the age of five are at risk of death from acute malnutrition by June 2026 if conditions do not improve.
Earlier this year, famine was officially declared in parts of Gaza, where prolonged siege, destruction of infrastructure, and severe restrictions on humanitarian aid have made basic survival increasingly difficult.
Human rights organizations have warned that the combination of trauma, disability, and starvation could mark a generational catastrophe for Palestinian children, with long-lasting implications for health, education, and development.
