Hospitals in central Gaza are overwhelmed as Palestinians fleeing intensified Israeli bombardment in Gaza City arrive in urgent need of care that cannot be fully provided.
Dr. Khalil Digran of Al-Aqsa Hospital said Israeli forces deliberately targeted al-Rantisi Paediatric Hospital, the Strip’s only specialised children’s facility.
He warned that Gaza City and the north are now left with only two barely functioning hospitals – al-Shifa and al-Ahli – while mounting pressure on facilities in central and southern Gaza threatens to shut them down completely.
Gaza’s health system has been on the brink of collapse since Israel launched its latest offensive nearly a year ago. With fuel, medicine, and medical equipment blocked from entering, hospitals have struggled to operate. Dozens of facilities have already been destroyed or forced to close, leaving thousands of wounded and displaced people with little or no access to essential healthcare.
