Military and strategic expert Brigadier General Elias Hanna commented on the Israeli recent escalation at the Lebanese border, stating that the Israeli occupation army is currently conducting a pulse-testing and tactical reconnaissance operation to gather intelligence on Hezbollah’s capabilities.
Brigadier General Hanna added that the Israeli occupation army aims to locate Hezbollah forces, missiles, and artillery to assess the group’s readiness and prepare for the next phase.
Hezbollah announced for the first time, at dawn on Wednesday, that it had confronted an Israeli force attempting to infiltrate the town of Adaisseh in the Marjeyoun district of the Nabatieh Governorate in southern Lebanon. The group stated that “its fighters inflicted losses on the Israeli force and compelled it to retreat.”
In a military analysis of the developments in Lebanon, Brigadier General Hanna described the town of Maroun al-Ras in the Nabatieh Governorate as a critical point for the Israeli occupation army. He noted that Maroun al-Ras, along with the towns of Aitaroun and Bint Jbeil, formed a triangle of steadfastness during the 2006 war, as the Israeli forces failed to impose control over these areas due to the resilience of the Lebanese resistance.
He stated that the Israeli occupation army is repeating the same mistake, as Hezbollah has adjusted its preparations. The group aims to engage in close-quarters combat and seeks to lure the Israeli army into Lebanon, compelling it to fight on its own territory and under its own terms.
He said that the current stage is the first stage, and Hezbollah is waiting and bombing the rear of the force deployed on the border, as the occupation army has moved about 6 brigades to contact and called up the reserve to leave the matter to it in case the army enters a certain area in Lebanon.
He noted that the occupation army has mobilized a significant number of forces (seven divisions), the same force that was previously stationed around the Gaza envelope, which ultimately failed to defeat the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
The military and strategic expert explained that the occupation army aims to target the depth and surroundings of the Lebanese resistance. However, Hezbollah has been preparing for this scenario for 18 years. He emphasized that the party’s most significant test lies in this area, as the center of gravity of its operations is located south of the Litani River.
For his part, military and strategic expert, retired Major General Fayez al-Duwairi, stated that Lebanese Hezbollah possesses four key strategic advantages in response to the announced Israeli ground operation in southern Lebanon.
Al-Duwairi emphasized in his military analysis that the advantages Hezbollah holds present a significant challenge to Israeli forces, noting that the timing and manner in which Hezbollah employs these advantages will be crucial in determining the outcome of the battle.
Al-Duwairi outlined Hezbollah’s four power cards as follows: first, Zero-Point Battle: He explained that this card differs from the Gaza Strip scenario, extending from zero point to a depth of 8 kilometers. This battle strategy involves the use of short-range missiles, such as the Kornet and the Red Arrow, along with direct ground confrontations.
Second, Missile Capabilities: The military expert noted that Hezbollah possesses a diverse missile arsenal, including medium and long-range missiles that can significantly enhance ground operations. He emphasized that the party has not yet deployed its full missile capabilities.
Third, Elite Forces: Al-Duwairi emphasized the significance of Hezbollah’s Radwan forces, anticipating a specific role for them in the upcoming battle, which is expected to be revealed in the coming days.
Fourth Naval capabilities: Al-Duwairi recalled the incident of the destruction of the Israeli ship “Sa’ar 5” in the 2006 war, pointing out the possibility of Hezbollah targeting the Israeli naval vessels participating in the operation, estimated at 19 pieces.
In the context of his analysis, Al-Duwairi stressed that the Israeli operation may be broader and deeper than what was announced, based on the Israeli combat doctrine that is based on exploiting any progress by expanding the scope of the existing operation.
In his assessment of air capabilities, Al-Duwairi confirmed that the Israeli Air Force will remain a card of strength for the Israeli side, but he stressed that this weapon does not decide the battle, and he also pointed out that Hezbollah possesses about 2,000 drones, but they do not provide it with air equality with Israel.
The military expert also considered that the land serves whoever owns it, indicating that the land in this case is in Hezbollah’s favor.
He called for waiting for the coming days to evaluate the nature of Hezbollah’s defense plan and how it employs the cards of strength it possesses in the face of the Israeli operation.
